Transports en commun/Public transportation

Dans la famille deux-roues, je voudrais le scooter. D'ordinaire, le scooter transporte une voire deux personnes, ici c'est plutôt trois voire quatre! Et même sur la voie express et sans casque... même pas peur! Un sort identique est réservé aux 125 qui transportent à tour de rôle une famille avec deux enfants en bas âge ou trois copains qui vont au boulot... enfin faut dire que ça va quand même plus vite que la carriole tirée par l'âne ;)

Let's talk about scooters. Usually, they transport one or two people, here it's more like three to four! Even on the highway and without helmet... not scary at all! Same for the small motorcycles which can carry a family of two adults and two young kids or three friends going to work... well at least it's going faster than the cart driven by a donkey ;)

Iftar Party

Super décor style faux coucher de soleil sur une plage à Hawaï dans le hall de l'hôtel Fairmont  (seulement pour les riches bien entendu) à Heliopolis, où nous sommes allés partager l'Iftar avec les collègues de David. L'Iftar, c'est le moment où le jeun est rompu par un énooorme repas de mets orientaux et de pâtisserie sucrées (trèèès sucrées), le tout arrosé de vin et de bière fraîche d'eau minérale et de thé... et après le festin, une petite chicha au bord de la piscine.

Fake sunset on a beach in Hawaii style setting in the entrance hall of the Fairmont Hotel (only for the rich and famous of course) in Heliopolis where we went to share the Iftar with Dave's colleagues. The Iftar is that moment when fasting ends for the day and a huuuge oriental meal is served along with some very very very sweet pastries and some wine and fresh beer mineral water and tea... and after the feast, a chicha (water pipe) by the pool.

Des coccinelles de toutes les couleurs se baladent dans Maadi. Elles sont mignonnes mais faut vouloir rouler sans clim' quand il fait 40°C dehors!

Beetles of every colours are going around Maadi. These are cute cars but only if you don't mind driving without air cond' when it's 40°C (104°F) out there!

Je ne peux pas résister à poster une petite photo de la terrasse de notre nouvel appart à Maadi! Nous avons signé hier mais il va falloir patienter patiemment jusqu'à samedi pour emménager car les travaux ne sont pas finis... la semaine va être longue!

I can't resist, I have to post a small pic of our new flat in Maadi, here is our terrace! We signed yesterday but we have to wait until Saturday to move in as they aren't done yet with the renovation... a long week ahead!

Ca y est, on a adopté un petit chien!!! Et oui, les chiens égyptiens n'ont pas un poil, ne sortent que la nuit et dévorent les moustiques... enfin presque tous...

*Le conseil du jour qui n'a rien à voir avec la photo: S'habituer à se lever à 6h45 le dimanche et à aller au boulot parce que c'est comme ça ici. Dimanche s'appelle désormais lundi!

Finally, we've adopted a doggy!!! Yes, egyptian dogs have no hair, only go out at night and feed on all mosquitos... well almost all of them...

*Tip of the day which has nothing to do with the pic: Get used to wake up at 6.45am on Sunday and go to work, this is how it works here. Sunday is the new Monday!

Bye bye London, Hellooo Cairooo

David admire son ticket bien mérité pour Le Caire. Deux minutes de repos salutaire après avoir traîné nos quatre valises au check-in et avant de monter dans l'avion.

Les chiffres du jour:

4: c'est le nombre d'années que nous avons passées à Londres (le temps passe très vite)

2: le nombre d'heures de retard de notre avion (on n'était plus à ça près)

40: le poids en kg autorisé en soute (oups)

108: le poids en kg que nous avions à déposer en soute (oupsssssssss)

Et voilà, après moultes péripéties et un suspense insoutenable, nous quittons donc Londres pour de bon...

David is admiring his well deserved ticket to Cairo. Two precious minutes of rest after carrying our four suitcases to the check-in and before boarding the plane.

That's it, after many adventures and an unbearable suspense, we finally left London for good...
